Description: Brooch marked, 'Germany', 'Sterling' and a makers mark of 'HE' (I think) in a square. Very small marking, too small to show in a picture. Heavy sterling silver modernist design with alternating bands of blue and green enamel. The bands follow the shape of the brooch and are a combination of cloisonne and basse-taille enamel. The glass enamel has been applied to channels created by sterling 'walls', it is translucent and you can see the etched groundplate through it. An abstract centerpiece is attached over the brooch and is pave set with clear rhinestones. A captivating and unusual piece that makes me thing of a body of water with an island in the middle. Of course, interpretation is up for discussion.
