Mourning Hair Bracelet

    Item #: 100303

Description: Bracelet, unmarked. Mid 1800's mourning bracelet band is made from human hair woven into nine strands which are sectioned into groups of three and then braided. The centerpiece is both a compartment and hinged clasp. These compartments generally held more hair, or sometimes a portrait. In this case, the original contents have long disappeared and have been replaced by a 1940's family photo. There is a very heavy patina on the hinge and compartment, making it almost black. I have not attempted to clean nor have I tested it for karat gold. The glass top of the compartment is missing, it was hinged on at one time. Please read condition description below, price reflects unrestored condition. Even with condition flaws, which are not unusual considering it's age, it's still a very wearable and collectable piece.
    Size: 6 3/4" x 5/8"
Condition: Fair: as noted above , glass compartment cover is missing. Original contents are unknown and missing. One of the nine hair stands has broken near clasp, but has not worked loose of the braid and is securely held in by the braid so is in no danger of getting worse. Clasp in good working order.

    Price: $155.00
