Item #: 101664
Description: Victorian micro mosaic floral/foliate motif set in black glass. The tesserae (glass tiles) are extremely tiny, some not even visible to the eye at arm's length. The flowers are blue at the bottom and shaded up to white at the top. The largest flowers have rust centers and the leaves are all dark green. The black glass ground is set in a gold filled or low karat beaded frame. The gold is not marked and has not been tested, but it looks to be gold filled. Locking c-clasp with small hook for a chain. Similar pieces shown in Costume Jewelry by Leigh Leshner, page 50. c. 1870-1880.
Size: 1 5/8" x 1 1/4"
Condition: Overall very good. Mosaic is excellent no tiles missing or chipped. Black glass has two surface scrapes on the back, not visible or cracked through to front, not unusual for these pieces. See lower left for view of the back.
