Description: Victorian crepe stone, dating to 1870's-1880's, is carved French jet, or black glass, made to look like crepe fabric. Nice example of mourning jewelry, the crepe carving gives the piece a dull finish, mandatory in jewelry for grieving women. Several examples are shown on page 67 of 'Old Jewelry' 4th edition by Jeanenne Bell.
